some programs i have been trying on my blackberry curve

Posted on Updated on

Before i begin let me start off by saying new Desktop Manager 4.6 is out over at the blackberry.com site.

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/

On the note of Blackberry. The Bold will be selling for $399.99 to those who use the Rogers carrier with a 2 year contract. Thats kinda steap, maybe the iPhone 3g wins this round so far but we will have to see what our North america carriers do with price. Now unto the programs.

Vigo – Is a little program that gives you updates on numerous things. News, sports, etc. Best thing about it is that its free.

http://viigo.com/partners/crackberry.html the link if you want to download it to your pc. They should have a direct link to download to your phone aswell somewhere on the site.

The next goodie i messed with is NOT new. New to me. The google maps feature. Is insane. I found every local place i go to with just adding the name to the search feature. For example: Pizza or Win dixie. The program finds your current location and pin points where you are or real close to it. Then can search to whatever you want. Give you all the info to the place. Number, address, directions to get there. Even a guide on the map you can just follow. Kinda scary to reminds me of the 80s song “Feels like somebodys watching meee”.

The link i believe is m.google.com/maps on your phone or just google “mobile google maps”. Either one should lead you to the program.

These links below are so you can get some themes on your phone. These themes are ones i use. I have 4.5 os update on phone tho and get the latest desktop manager. These themes are for 83xx model blackberry.

Email these links to yourself on the phone and click on link or just type out the link on your phone browser. Sorry i forgot to mention it first time.

How to Pimp my BlackBerry

Posted on Updated on

First thing you will need is your Desktop manager. Make sure you get the latest one from http://www.blackberry.com.
Next a site to download themes from. Now themes will depend on the version of the operating system you have on the phone.
ALot of people are still probably running 4.2 for the curve maybe older on other phones. I’ve got 4.5 which gave me a few extra things.
Like video recording and voice notes. Another thing that came with the 4.5 update is the new menu setup. Other Blackberry update as well but the options that where included vary.
FOr example the Pearl got the update but still cant record videos.

http://sashasthemes.blogspot.com/2008/08/earth-zen.html

She makes excellent themes. Can get them OTA(on the air). TO get the Desktop Manager files you will have to pay $3 bucks. Well Worth it though.

I’m gonna go ahead and presume you guys have the latest Os installed.
Themes when downloaded consist of 2 files alx and cod files. Those are extensions.
In simple terms its like when you download music you might see, the name of a file followed by .mp3.
Same thing here. Make sure your phone is plugged into the PC and run Desktop Manager. Once it detects your phone we can go ahead.
On the lower left part of desktop manager you should see Device connected (pin) then some numbers, that’s your phone.
In the main part of the window you should see some icons. The one you are going to need for this article is Application Loader.
You should see 2 new screens. An Add/Remove applications and a Update Applications. Select the Add Applications by clicking on the start.
Once in there you should see some applications you have on your phone or you might not. I see a few themes i have installed. Don’t worry about it.
If you are using the old Desktop Manager you will probably see alot of programs pop up. Don’t worry about that either. Select the add or browse option and this is where you select the new theme to be added.
Find the alx file for the theme you have downloaded and click open or add it. You will notice the loading bar come up on Desktop Manager and it is installing. Once its done you might notice a couple of things.
Might notice your phone reset or load for a second or it might not do anything. OK now to get the theme working. On your phone open up the main menu icons and look for options. Once in options scroll down to themes.
The name of the Theme you just installed should show up. Hit the select button or  for curve or pearl users click the mouse ball. It’ll take it a few seconds to organize everything like changing icons, fonts etc.
You should be up and running.

Part 2 of this article is how to install on the air themes. OTA. This means you find a theme you want and have the link to download it sent to your phone.
This usually requires you to register to a site with themes for your phone and having them email it to you. Once you get the email it should provide you a link to download it directly.
Just scroll down to the link and click it. There should be a “do you want to download it now” option. You select Yes and the theme will be downloaded and installed automatically. You then do like the above paragraph.
Go to options. You select themes. Pick the one you just downloaded and installed and click on it or select it. The rest is wait a few seconds for phone to set it up. Some phones might take longer then others.

ANother thing to remember depending on your phones versions of OS(operating system) those are the theme versions you can use. SO if your phone is still 4.2 you cant use 4.5. Although some people make the same themes for different version of phones.

Remember what you need to do this stuff all vary on phones.

1. Desktop Manager( i use 4.5 with media manager)
2. Usb cable to PC for phone.
3. A place or site to get Themes. I use Themes4BB.com and Crackberry.com. In the forums sections you’ll find all the info you need on phones, themes and software for your phones.
4. Just follow instructions.

Enjoy your pimped out blackberry =)

Updating and Adding custom themes and ring tones to your blackberry

Ah yes my crackberry fiends come to me. *holds his curve in the air with the 4.5 OS* Bow before me. As i now have the ability to record video! ROOAAARR. OK that was corny but fun. OK lets get started with the simple guide of how to update your blackberry.

A few essentials your gonna need before we get started.

1.  Blackberry phone. 2. A computer with usb port. 3. A usb wire that connects from your phone to your PC.

4. Desktop Manager( Latest one can be found on the blackberry.com, search for the 4.5 version with media manager or non.)

Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8320 smartphone

or

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads…7D8+I2dafYJQ**

**note** This version does not include preinstalled wallpapers

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier’s 8320:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed.
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads…93E4F3BB068C22
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It’s located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it’s done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 45 minutes at a time while the DM says “waiting for initialization.”
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device

Thank you to our Orange UK members Steve_S_T & Bodisaffa for pointing this out!!

Again I wanna thank the guys over at Crackberry.com for this guide. Remember I take no responsibility of any damage caused to your phone on changing your os.

Ok now that your Os is updated. It is time to have some fun with your phone =p.

Ok its pretty simple, on crackberry.com or theme4bb.com you can find custom made themes for your model phone. Download oneo that you like and unzip to your desktop. Plug in your phone to the usb wire and into your pc. Your computer should detect it and then run Desktop manager.  Fine the aplication loader icon and click on it. Don’t be alarmed by the stuff you see listed. Its just either showing what you have installed or the themes you have if you don’t have any custom then you won’t see anything.  OK look for the browse button or add button and go to your desktop location and choose the alx file. Click next or OK it will take a second to upload the theme to your phone, you can see your phone it should have the red light on and or the white screen and loading glass running. Some themes take a little longer then others. Once it sets up some restart the machine others just install fast. You might see a security load screen at the start that’s OK. When that is done go to your options, then themes and select the name of the theme you just installed. In the next few seconds you should see  little loading glass and your fonts change and your basicly done installing your new theme. Return to your main menu and enjoy.

OK I promised you ring tone’s. Lets do ring tones. The ring tone approach i use is different. I don’t use the roxio media manager in Desktop Manager. I use a separate program called Audacity. Now if you want to use full songs as ring tones. Your gonna need a sd micro memory card. When you have one. Pop in your phone to the PC and you should get a screen asking you what would you like to do. Select the open folder option. It will open a folder and you will see the blackberry folder. Open that. Look for ring tones folder and cope any mp3 you want to into that folder.

If your like me and like taking the best parts of songs and use those as ring tones. I use Audacity to cut the parts I want. Simply run the program, click on the open file or New option, look for the file you want and click OK or select. Audacity should have the file loaded up and ready to go.  What you do is on top where the time measures are. You click on where you want the editing to start and then click again where you want it to end. Might need to drag. Once you got the timing on where and when you want it to start and end on the song. Go to the edit option on top and click on the cut option.  Once that is done, click on the the New option again like your doing it from scratch. This will open a new window. Once that is open go to edit and click paste and it should paste only the part of the song you cut out from the last one. Don’t save when it asks you to on the one you cut it will edit your real mp3 file. =) On the new window click on save. Where it asks you where you can save right to blackberry/ring tones folder on your phone. Now you just made your custom ring tone. If you got any questions feel free to comment.

I would like to thank crackberry.com and themes4bb.com and Audacity.
