iTunes and the App Store. The difference between the 2.

Posted on Updated on

itunes-12 App-Store

Apple’s iTunes and Macbook App store.

These 2 places are the same but different. Different but the same in concept. At this point i am probably not making any sense. That is unless your eco system is all Apple. The difference is what it provides for you and your specific device.
The iTunes store provides you with music, movies, apps. This option is works for all devices except the apps which will only work on your portables. MacBooks and iMacs and the mac mini have their own app store. Which provide you with a bigger scale of the programs you may want. For example: Microsoft word on your iPad is designed for your iPad. You might not get the same bells and whistles that you would get with the desktop version. Things are more scaled to the platform they are going to be used on. So if you need to buy media and so on, You can do this through iTunes on your macbook and if you need a program like iMovie you can find this in the App store.

Here is a video showcasing the difference between the two. As you can see iTunes only shows 2 tabs. iPhone and iPad. Most of the apps and games in the iTunes library cater to those 2 devices. Now you can buy music and movies and still see them on all your devices which are linked together. Assuming you use the same Apple ID across your eco system.

So remember iTunes can hold all your media. Apple store is where you buy your software for you desktop devices or MacBooks. If you have any suggestions or comments please feel free to email me. politech101@gmail.com

Me , Myself and iPad

Posted on Updated on

It has been a minute since or maybe a year or two since i posted on this site.

I have moved on since then to my good old iPad. I am not an Apple fan boy but I am impressed with where we are going.  We have come to the age where mobility and comfort has replaced huge power house machines. It seems the further we move in technology the faster and smaller the devices get.  Now i can sit here and brag about my Apple iPad and what it can do compared to other brand named tablets but this article is more on where we stand as far advancement in technology.

Let’s start with the fun first. This aspect of the iPad is not revolutionary but a great add-on to a device. With major companies making games for the iPad its future as a mini gamer is very welcomed. Games like Madden Football. Grand theft auto:China town wars, Angry birds and Hero of Sparta the iPad, is very enjoyable as a gaming platform.  Those are only some of the game titles available. If you own a iPhone or iTouch you know they have a huge library of games.

Dungeon Hunter

Next we have reading and more reading. All types of reading though. To be completely honest I have not read as much in my life. Somehow reading on the iPad has made reading fun again. Let’s see what we can do.  If you have wi-fi or have the 3G version of the iPad you can surf the internet and have all types of access to reading. Newspapers , books etc. Below is an example. My folks are from Panama and love to read the paper from over there and with the iPad its a lot easier than on the computer or a laptop that weights way more and it looks cool compared to other people reading an old news paper.

La Estrella Panama
Books library

As you can see in the pic above its my books library.  On my iPad i currently carry 1.1 gigs worth of books. Doesn’t sound like a lot does it. In fact its 818 books.  You can also read pdf files and check your emails just like the iPhone and itouch can.

As great a device as this is there are a couple of downfalls. The biggest being no Adobe Flash from Apple. Secondly the prices on these great devices are not very friendly. $499 for the cheapest iPad with wi-fi only.

Is it worth the money? I believe it is. On one portable device you can carry your post office aka your email, hundreds or thousands of books aka library, your browser to surf anything anywhere aka your internet. Games aka your mini ps3 or Xbox. Not to mention its an iPad for your music and its your new block buster with Netflix or even with your own movies to add.

Bottom line if you decide to buy an iPad do not buy it to replace your laptop. A laptop can do so much more as far as programs, web caming etc. If you’re looking for a device to take around for social sites, checking emails on business trips or surfing the web. A device you can watch movies on a trip or even need a giant gps, the iPad can do it.

Is anyone home?

Wow it has been awhile since I have posted on this blog. I have been caught in school working on my associates degree in computer information. I have trapped in street fighter 4 and a pool of other stuff.  I figured I would come back and prove to you that karma might actually exist.  Here’s my story.

I think you guys recall me posting heavy into Blackberry. I had how to guides on making ring tones etc. I had posted on the sidekick, htc phones etc. Then I managed to trade my curve for an iPhone. I went from blackberry fan boy to iPhone fan boy.  I had traded my xbox 360 for the curve that got me my first iPhone. So this time around. Few months passed of having my iPhone, i decided my fever was over and went to trade it back for an xbox 360 that i wanted because street fighter 4 was coming out and I’m a huge fanatic for the past 20 years. Btw check out known2own.wordpress.com, that’s my other blog.  So now i got my xbox back, few months after that i need a phone,  i start school with no way of communicating with the out side social world we live in.  So i go get on the cheap flex pay plan from T-mobile and get 2 free curves sunset. wooot. 2 weeks later i trade my sunset for another iPhone. YAY. HOLD ON, the phone starts spazzing out. It is not responding or anything so I restore a couple of times, the phone seemed to be fixed for a couple of hours before messing up again. DAMN IT. I felt like i got ripped off. I check out the apple support and stuff pop in the information they want and lord and behold it still had 5 days of warranty on it.  Now i pray to god someone at the at&t store could help me. So i go there and there’s no way of getting a sim card this and that, girl asks me why don’t you just try getting on at&t and see if you get a newer one. So i try and OMG im accepted, so i walk out on a 2 year contract and family plan and my mom on a new phone. Now i got to go home and pop in the sim card and call apple for support. I did it they run me through these procedures. Made me an appointment and i show up to that appointment. The dude looks at it, checks it for water damage and says, since the phone isn’t acting up now and it stuff im just gonna go ahead and place an order for you on a replacement phone since you only have 1 day left of warranty. Is there a god, I don’t know. I just know there’s a big Apple. lmao.

Posted on Updated on

Thanks to the poeple at hackthatiPhoneandiTOuch for information below

Step 1 Downgrade to 1.1.1 ( if required)

  1. Download the iPod touch 1.1.1 ipsw firmware file from Apple. Do this in Firefox .
  2. Connect your iPod touch to your PC or Mac.
  3. Put your iPod touch into restore mode: – first, turn off the ipod (slide to power off). – second, turn it back on but when the apple logo appears, hold down the home button until it shows the “connect to iTunes” picture. Now your ipod is in recovery mode Next, press and hold the Shift key on Windows or the Option key on Mac (In iTunes), then click Restore in iTunes. It will open up the File dialog. Now you can select the 1.1.1 firmware file you downloaded earlier.

Note: Currently Itunes versions 7.4 and up will install ipod touch operation software 1.1.1

Step 2: Jailbreaking 1.1.1

  1. Launch Safari on your iPod Touch.
  2. Visit http://jailbreakme.com/, Scroll down to the bottom, click “Install AppSnapp”. Safari will exit and you’ll return to your springboard. Slide to unlock, you are now jailbroken and are able to use Installer.app.
  3. Launch Installer.app (version 3). Click on the Install section at the bottom.
  4. Scroll down to All Packages.Select OktoPrep.Click Install
  5. Connect your device to your computer
  6. Click Update. Do NOT click on restore. If you do, everything you have done up until this point will have to be repeated.
  7. Eject your device from iTunes but keep it connected to your computer. Close iTunes.
  8. Download and extract the 1.1.2 Jailbreak Utility. Extract it to /tmp/ if you are using a Mac.
  9. On Windows make sure you have Java installed then double click on windows.bat, on a Mac, double click on jailbreak.jar
  10. Congratulations! You’ve jailbroken 1.1.2!

One thing when you install the installer app DO NOT INSTALL ANY TYPE OF NEW KEYBOARDS. TRUST ME IT WILL MESS UP YOUR IPOD.If you want to run Mobile Mail, Stocks, Weather, Notes, and Maps on your iPod Touch with 1.1.2 installed, make sure you use the 1.1.2 iPhone apps, which are available here: http://rapidshare.com/files/69144568/iPhoneApps112.zip.html

Lets look thru the bin and see what we can restore….

The link above is pretty funny and I wonder if it was done on purpose or as a joke. It’s an iPhone application that does nothing but show a little red light on the screen and sells for $999. Merry Xmas dear I purchased you a little red dot on your iPhone…don’t tell your mother i bought it. Lmao. Hey Apple i got a $999 application for the iPhone…..It’s a Fattydakid icon that lets out a Joker style chuckle when you enter the iTunes store. Lets move on.

Hackers create fake sites through Internet flaw

Don’t we all love our waskly wabbits of the internet. I’ve never been hacked and no I’m not making a challenge! I’m just saying I don’t click on anything I don’t recognize. You should also know major companies should not be re-directing you to google for anything. Over on CNN\technology they have an article on it.

It also seems like the Samsung Instinct is making a move a on the iPhone. I wouldn’t doubt it with the price of the iPhone you not really getting much more but technology. One of our weakness’s we love to dish out the cash for new technology. OK OK I’m one of them but it wasn’t for an iPhone. The Samsung Instinct for $149 and 2 year contract sounds good to me. Read up on the Samsung phone below.
